The network has been set up to support residents and take up residents’ issues in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The aim is to create residents associations for each of the local authority areas in the region, who we hope will wish to set up local branches to reflect local concerns.
Many concerns are common to all parts of our vast region, and where local associations do not yet exist, we will try to take these up on your behalf.
The initiative depends on your support. There is no cost and no need to make your contact details public but this is an invitation to join our contact list so you can raise issues and keep up to date.
For further information or to join the network personally, or to let us know of an existing residents association that would like to be part of our network, please email info@highlandsandislandsresidents.org
Please feel free to raise any concerns you have. Concerns raised so far include:
- the industrialisation of the highlands through the upgrades in the electricity and mobile data grids
- the NC500 and related issues of over-tourism
- Inverness as a ‘smart city’
- The Freeport
- de-funding and withdrawal of public services from rural areas
- watching the councils and HIE and holding them accountable
There is no need to support every issue raised. We don’t have to agree on everything. In fact this is an opportunity to discuss and explore issues in an open, friendly way.
Please just indicate in your email which if any of the above issues are concerns you share.
The Highlands And Islands Residents Association Network is part of the (UK-wide) National Residents Association. This means that you can if you wish make contact with others elsewhere who might have similar concerns and experience:
